The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs says false, malicious, and defamatory allegations made publicly by Permanent Secretary Jone Navakamocea against the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and Minister Ifereimi Vasu have been firmly rejected, with the matter now referred for legal action.
On Friday, March 20th, Navakamocea made a social media post in which he allegedly criticised Vasu’s leadership and made claims linking him to convicted criminal Jason Zhong.
In response, the Ministry says it has conducted a full assessment of the claims and their impact on the integrity of both the Minister’s office and the institution, concluding that the allegations are categorically untrue.
The Ministry confirms that instructions have been issued to legal counsel to pursue all available legal avenues and initiate proceedings against Navakamocea as soon as practicable.
They further warn that legal action may also extend to individuals or parties who share, republish, or contribute to the alleged defamatory claims.
The Ministry adds that such allegations not only damage reputations but also undermine public trust in government institutions, stressing that anyone making such claims must be prepared to substantiate them through the appropriate legal channels.
Despite the ongoing dispute, the Ministry maintains that it remains focused on delivering its mandate and advancing reforms for the iTaukei people, while reaffirming its openness to constructive feedback and responsible dialogue.
