The Mataqali Nabukarabe of Nakama Village in Macuata has formally accepted the offer from the Water Authority of Fiji and the iTaukei Land Trust Board for the use of the Nasarava water source located on its land.
The Mataqali confirms that the agreed commercial terms include a premium of $765,000, compensation of $610,000, and annual land rental of $35,000.
They say WAF and iTLTB assured them during a meeting last week that the full funds will be deposited into the Nabukarabe Holdings bank account by 10th March 2026, within six weeks of the agreement.
To support timely processing, the Mataqali has formally requested that WAF and iTLTB provide, within seven days a payment schedule detailing component amounts, dates, method, and the designated beneficiary account, drafts or copies of all lease and legal documents, and a Memorandum of Understanding outlining non-monetary commitments — including three employment placements, site cleaning, renovation of the caretaker's dwelling, road works, two 4WD vehicle arrangements, and an income deposit mechanism.
Mataqali Secretary Kalesi Volatabu-Waqaninavatu says they welcome the commitment shown by WAF and iTLTB, and look forward to prompt confirmation and documentation to enable internal completion of the agreement process.
We are in the process of getting comments from WAF.
