Joining the Republic of Fiji Military Forces shaped the person I am today, particularly in terms of discipline.

Amele Tarakinikini highlighted this during the 38th anniversary celebrations of the RFMF 1/88 pioneer servicewomen at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks.

Tarakinikini says they also acknowledged the vision of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who was the Commander at the time, for introducing women into the force.

She says the occasion was also a moment to reflect on the remarkable legacy they have created.

She adds that exposure to military training can instill discipline in children and positively mould their character.

The 57-year-old adds that the celebrations will last a week, and they are looking forward to their planned activities, as they head to the west today.
