Thirty years ago I gave birth to my youngest child, and today, on his birthday, I mourn his tragic death.
This was shared by Makereta Wati, the mother of the late Jone Soko who was found dead in Nauluvatu yesterday.
Wati told fijivillage News that her youngest son will not be celebrating his birthday with her, his wife, and his two children due to the tragic incident that claimed his life on yesterday morning.
She says she misses him deeply, as he was the youngest of her four children.
Wati shared that Soko came to Suva with his family last year so his wife could give birth, and they have been staying with the family since then.
Just 10 months after the birth of his son, the young father is no longer with them.
Soko’s wife, Naomi Adinatokailagi, told fijivillage News that her husband returned home from work on Saturday, took a shower, and told her he was going to watch the Drua and Brumbies game at a friend’s house up the road.
She says that was the last conversation she had with him.
Yesterday morning, the family was awakened by police officers and neighbours who arrived to inform them about the tragic incident involving Soko.
The family alleges he had been drinking with some friends in the neighbourhood when a heated argument broke out.
The argument allegedly led to Soko being assaulted before he was carried to a location near his home, where he was later found dead.
Police are continuing investigations into the cause of death.
