Save The Children Fiji to provide immediate food assistance following a $20,000 urgent donation by listeners of CFL’s radio stations

Save The Children Fiji will provide immediate food assistance to 10,000 people following a $20,000 urgent donation by Communications Fiji Limited, the parent company of Legend FM, FM96, Viti FM, Navtarang, Radio Sargam and fijivillage.

The funds are from the CFL Appeal Account that has been donated by the listeners of the 5 CFL radio stations.

Save The Children Fiji CEO, Shairana Ali says the donation is timely as they are getting many requests from families on the ground to provide for their children.

Ali says the assistance will also be in the form of baby milk and reusable diapers as that is also one of the main requests from mothers.

100 percent of the funds provided will be going to the purchase of the grocery packs and there will be no administrative costs for this.

CFL’s Senior Content Director, Satya Nand says the CFL team through their listeners decided to provide the immediate assistance to Save The Children Fiji to ensure the much needed food assistance is provided to the affected children.

Meanwhile Ali says food remains the immediate need for many families severely affected by COVID-19 in the country, and new mothers are even making desperate calls for assistance to provide milk for their babies as they are giving babies sugar and water.

As they continue to assist families with grocery packs in the affected areas, Ali says the situation has worsened for people during the second wave of COVID-19 in Fiji as they have lost their jobs, are on reduced hours or on leave without pay.

She says they are also receiving calls from grandparents who are looking after their grandchildren as they cannot put food on the table.

The children are the most vulnerable during this crisis and Ali is calling on people to come forward and help them in providing immediate food assistance.
