Fiji National University’s Director of Marketing and Communication, Karen Lobendahn has resigned with immediate effect following a meeting between Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, Vice Chancellor of FNU Doctor Unaisi Nabobo, the Chair of the FNU Council Semesa Karavaki and available Council members after complaints raised to Radrodro by past and current FNU staff members.

In a statement, Radrodro says they discussed with the FNU executives the various concerns raised which included allegations against Karen Lobendahn, as well as other allegations over certain staff members at FNU’s School of Law and the delay in addressing issues raised to Management.

He states that it is incumbent on FNU to act in the best interest of students at all times, and not to allow issues to escalate to the point where the institution is brought to disrepute and his office has to become involved to resolve matters.

Radrodro says the meeting resolved a number of issues which includes the need to have proper disciplinary processes within the University, so that matters that arise are amicably resolved in a timely manner.

The Minister says the FNU Council in their report handed to his office yesterday, have confirmed that Lobendahn has resigned with immediate effect from FNU.

He says the remaining concerns which also include grievances against a senior law lecturer is expected to be resolved urgently by FNU with a report expected back for the Ministry of Education.

Radrodro is reminding the FNU to always adhere to the rule of law in all its activities and decisions.

When contacted by fijivillage News, Karen Lobendahn said that she will not make any comments and referred all issues to the Vice Chancellor.

We have sent questions to FNU Vice Chancellor, Doctor Unaisi Nabobo. She is yet to respond.
