The Principal of a school has suggested if the Pacific Labour Scheme can be extended to teachers who are about to retire.

Emoni Tuvui who is the Principal of Niusawa Methodist High School in Taveuni, says these teachers can teach subjects such as maths and physics in Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific Islands countries.

He says this could be controlled by the Ministry of Education.

Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they do not hire people and anyone who wants to work under the Pacific Labour Scheme will have to register with the National Employment Centre.

He says the recruiting agencies will do the selection and the Government does not do anything.

He adds the Ministry of Education will not have a say because it is a liability issue.

Sayed-Khaiyum says if a teacher is recommended and they do not turn out to be good then the Ministry will be held culpable.
