People are raising concerns about police officers allegedly accepting bribes, officers engaging in criminal acts, and poor service delivery.

Some people have raised concerns with fijivillage News, alleging that they have encountered police officers asking for or accepting bribes – and they are questioning whether such reports will be properly addressed if formally lodged.

When questioned by fijivillage News on these concerns, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu called on the public to come forward with solid reports rather than relying on speculation.

He says that only when such matters are reported can investigations be carried out to determine the truth of the allegations.

In response to questions regarding officers being involved in criminal acts and subsequently appearing in court, Tudravu says his stance is clear — any officer who abuses their powers will be taken to task.

The Commissioner says such actions are a stern reminder to all officers — and a message to the public that no one is above the law.

People have also raised concerns about the service delivery of officers and the lack of vehicles at certain police stations.

Tudravu explained that despite government efforts to allocate vehicles, not every station can be fully equipped. He says the issue is not just about transport — it is also about the attitude and commitment of officers on the ground.

Tudravu says he has instructed officers to use whatever means are available to attend to reports.

He adds that he cannot guarantee every unit will have a vehicle, but that should not stop officers from responding to people’s reports.

Commissioner Tudravu says reforms are ongoing within the force to improve professionalism and rebuild public trust.

He is urging people to work with the police by reporting misconduct and corruption through the proper channels.
