(L-R) Minister for Employment Parveen Bala, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum and Chair of FRCS Board Fay Yee

About 500 people have already been recruited via the Government’s Stronger Together Job Support Scheme.

They have been hired by more than 20 companies that have registered under the scheme.

While speaking during the agreement signing with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they will be paying the minimum wage rate of $2.68 and if there is an additional sum to be paid that will be catered for by the employer.

Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted that the people are hired for new jobs that have been created.

He adds if people who are receiving the government subsidy from FNPF get employment under the scheme they will stop getting the government FNPF subsidy whilst they are employed.

Sayed-Khaiyum has encouraged employers to give first preference to people who maybe unskilled and do not have an FNPF Account.

He says the aim is to have this for the next three months and potentially continue.
