Former Balata College student and Coca-Cola Games gold medallist Rusiate Matai has broken the national high jump record with a jump of 2.10 metres while participating in the Bearcat Invitational Competition in the United States.

The previous record was 2.09 metres and was set by current LegendFM personality and former Marist Brothers High School student, Antonio Rahiman back in 2003.

Rahiman broke the national record in the 2003 Coca Cola Games.

During the Fiji Finals last year, Matai came close to breaking the record but won gold for Balata College despite falling short with a jump of 2.03 metres.

Matai is currently studying in the United States on a scholarship.
