Nasinu Secondary School's Under-18 team produced a remarkable comeback, overturning a 17-0 half-time deficit to defeat Holy Cross College 21-20 in the Vodafone Super Deans Eliminations Competition in Suva today.
Holy Cross College dominated the opening half, putting pressure on the Southern Zone finalists from the first whistle and taking a commanding 17-0 lead into the break.
However, Nasinu returned after half-time with renewed determination, showing composure and resilience to turn the match around.
The team scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to secure a dramatic one-point victory and book a place in the national quarter-finals.
The match ended with emotional scenes as Holy Cross players struggled to come to terms with surrendering their first-half advantage and allowing Nasinu to complete a memorable comeback.
In other results, Cuvu College thumped Saint John Cawaci 55-7, while Suva Grammar School beat Ratu Luke Secondary School 50-6.
Lelean Memorial School defeated Marist Brothers High School 26-7, while Ratu Kadavulevu School thrashed Ratu Sukuna Memorial School 43-14 to secure their places in the national quarter-finals.
