The 15th Fiji Fashion Week will feature a Fijian fashion designer who has just graduated from a prestigious Australian fashion school and already has a job with Australia’s leading fashion brand.

Managing Director, Ellen Whippy-Knight says Laisiasa Davetawalu has just finished his degree in fashion and design from the Australian Fashion and Design College.

She says the opportunity was created and fully funded by the Fiji Fashion Week and when Davetawalu was a 15-year-old student, she took him with her to Australia where he lived with her and studied.

Whippy-Knight says he already has a job with Australia's top fashion label, Zimmerman because he is so good at what he does.

Davetawalu will be part of the 24 designers.

She also says student designers are going to design a dress based on the sponsor, Palmolive’s colours and the winner will get a prize that is sponsored by their partner, CFL.

Whippy-Knight has also highlighted that this is the first time they will be focusing on fashion sustainability.

Palmolive has renewed their partnership with the Fiji Fashion Week for the third year and has handed over a cheque of $75,000.

The show will be on the 27th and 28th of May at the Vodafone Arena where 22 of the best local and 2 overseas fashion designers will showcase their best designs.
