State relying on DNA evidence in QEB armoury break in

The man who is alleged to have broken into the Queen Elizabeth Barracks armoury made his first appearance in the Suva High Court this morning.

Isaia Ledua is charged with one count of Aggravated Burglary and one count of Damaging Property with the intention of entering the RFMF armoury.

Ledua appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

He is represented by Jerry Dinati, while the State is represented by Simione Seruvatu.

Seruvatu told the court that there is no CCTV video and they will be relying on DNA evidence moving forward.

He says DNA evidence obtained from the minor component of axe and keypad was similar to the DNA given by the accused.

The State is seeking 14 days to file and serve Information and Disclosures.

Justice Goundar has transferred the case to Justice Dane Tuiqereqere where Ledua's plea will be taken on 22nd June.
