Over $85,000 have been raised from the 18 teams that took part in the Frank Hilton Wheelbarrow Race 2019 and donations are still pouring in.

The money is expected to help children with special needs or who are at a risk of disability.

The entry fee for teams taking part was $5000.

The event was won by team Permal Construction at Albert Park today.

The 18 teams that took part in the wheelbarrow race were Bagel Boys, Harcourts, British American Tobacco, Bluescope Lysaght, Bluescope Pacific Steel, Fortech Construction, Telecom Fiji Limited, Asco Motors, Habitat for Humanity Fiji, Vodafone Fiji, Fiji TV, Star Printery, Janty Kanvan, Permal Construction, Motibhai Group, Walesi, Oceania Gas and Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Frank Hilton Organization Sureni Perara says the money that has been raised will be used for the operational cost of the organisation.

The Frank Hilton Organisation supports over 1500 children with special needs or are at a risk of disability annually through community outreach programmes, outpatient services in Hilton Early Intervention Centre and Hilton Special School.

Frank Hilton Organisation provides early detection and intervention, rehabilitation, education and parent support programmes.

Sureni says that they are also the only service provider for audiology services and speech therapy services.

She says this is the fourth year for the race which has ensured the consistency of funds in the organization.

Meanwhile, Minister for Women, Children, Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa, has applauded the efforts and contributions of the private sector to respond to the needs of children with special needs.

While speaking at the Amazing Frank Hilton Wheelbarrow Race 2019 held at Albert Park this morning, Vuniwaqa says the government and the private sector will work together and will not leave any stones unturned to support such a noble cause.
