British cinema enjoyed a memorable night at the 2026 BAFTAs, with Robert Aramayo capping a strong evening by winning both the Best Newcomer and Best Actor awards.
The evening also saw One Battle After Another take home the coveted Best Film prize, alongside five additional awards, cementing its status as a major success of the night.
Meanwhile, Hamnet earned accolades, with Jessie Buckley picking up the Best Actress award among its honours.
Sinners was another standout, claiming three wins from its thirteen nominations, including Original Screenplay and Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku.
Aramayo and Mosaku’s victories ended a four-year dry spell for British actors at the awards, a milestone highlighted by the BBC’s culture editor.
Despite stiff competition from Hollywood heavyweights, big names such as Timothée Chalamet, Paul Mescal and Leonardo DiCaprio missed out in their respective categories.
