USA Embassy launches fifth year of Academy for Women Entrepreneurs

USA Embassy launches fifth year of Academy for Women Entrepreneurs

$95,000 has been given to the Women’s Entrepreneurs Business Council by the USA Embassy in Fiji to facilitate the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs Fiji 2024 for women business owners from Fiji’s Central, Northern, and Western Divisions who have a range of backgrounds and business expertise.

Ambassador Marie C Damour says the USA is proud to continue its support for an inclusive, prosperous Pacific, strengthening economic development as one of its key thematic areas, empowering women to be active participants in economic life.

Ambassador Damour says the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs gives women the knowledge, networks, and access they need to launch and scale successful businesses.

Facilitator for Makoi’s Women in Business, Neelam Maharaj says it is a proud moment for them as this is the fifth year that they are being supported by the US Embassy and being a facilitator they do encounter different types of challenges.

Maharaj says most women are hesitant to join, but she is encouraging them to challenge themselves and believe in their potential.

The Chief Executive Officer for Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation Jonetani Tonawai told fijivillage News that women should take advantage of this initiative and be a change in their communities and country.

He says this space is for empowering women for economic stability and independence and will encourage other women to support themselves and improve their livelihood.
