The Fiji Development Bank has achieved a significant milestone in environmental sustainability, successfully diverting a substantial 1.9 tonnes of recyclables from landfills and dumpsites for recycling, through the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s I Recycle Hub Program, in partnership with USAID Clean Cities Blue Ocean (CCBO) program.

This accomplishment, recorded from September 14th, 2023, to May 21st, 2024, marks the highest collection among four implementing sites under this program.

The Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo expressed his admiration for FDB's achievement and says FDB’s success is a testament to the dedication and passion of its recycling advocates, staff, and tenants.

Deo says they have elevated their commitment to recycling advocacy, setting a new standard for our efforts.

Throughout the specified period, FDB collected and redirected for recycling 81kg of plastic, 329.5kg of glass bottles, 426.5kg of PET bottles, 1 tonne of cardboard and paper, and 47.5kg of tin and aluminium cans.

Deo says this cumulative effort underscores FDB’s pivotal role in environmental conservation.

He adds since the inception of the program at FDB, they have conducted 20 collections, witnessing substantial improvements with each.

He says the data demonstrate a transformative shift in mindset and behaviour towards best practices among FDB staff and their tenants.

Fiji Development Bank CEO, Saud Minam says they are delighted that FDB is making a positive impact.

Minam acknowledged FDB’s Manager of Properties and Administration, Mangal Singh, the FDB team at large, and their tenants for driving this great initiative.
