114 Fijian companies have exported 37 tonnes of kava to Australia from December 2021 to 30 June 2022 under phase 2 of Australia’s Kava Pilot.

For Filipe Waqavuka of Kade Village in Koro, farming was his career choice as his father was a farmer and he looked up to him. Waqavuka shared his story in a video posted on the Australian High Commission in Fiji’s Facebook page.

He says that he has nine siblings and his father raised them from the income he got from his kava farm.

Waqavuka now owns two kava farms that has over 3,000 plants.
