Two taxi drivers were badly assaulted in separate incidents in Wainibokasi this month, with one driver also allegedly being robbed and having his taxi stolen.
Mahen Datt, who operates from the Gulam Nabi Street taxi base in Nausori, is recovering after he was attacked, robbed and had his taxi stolen during a trip to Wainibokasi last Tuesday evening.
Datt is calling for action to be taken against the suspect.
He told fijivillage News that he picked up a man at around 5.45pm who asked to be taken to a piggery farm in Wainibokasi.
Datt says while they were returning, the passenger, who was seated behind him, pulled out a dagger, threatened to slit his throat and demanded his money.
He claims the suspect stole about $120 in cash, his watch, a wallet containing about $50 in float and his ID cards.
Datt says he suffered a deep cut to his neck while trying to defend himself before managing to escape from the taxi.
He alleges the suspect then drove off with the taxi.
The injured driver was taken to Wainibokasi Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Datt has also claimed that the same suspect allegedly attacked his cousin, Daya Nand, in a similar incident on the 18th of this month.
Nand says he is worried that this is becoming a normal occurrence.
He says he is thankful to God that nothing happened to him, as he has a family to take care of.
Police say both complaints are under investigation and officers are trying to identify the people involved.
