Marina was discharged from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital, after receiving treatment for a heart condition that was discovered shortly after birth.
She was among three children discharged from the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Hospital after receiving treatment for heart conditions.
Tirii says the family did not know Marina had a heart condition at birth, but doctors detected a heart murmur after she became sick during her first week of life.
Further tests later confirmed that Marina had a large ventricular septal defect, or VSD, which is a hole in the heart.
Tirii says finding out that her first child had a heart condition was difficult and unexpected.
Marina continued to receive medical check-ups in the Solomon Islands before arrangements were made for the mother and daughter to travel to Fiji for treatment.
Tirii says travelling away from home with her three-month-old baby was not easy, but she is grateful her daughter was able to receive the care she needed.
She has thanked the Solomon Islands Government for supporting their journey to Fiji, as well as the surgeons, donors and medical teams involved in Marina’s care.
After the uncertainty surrounding her daughter’s condition and the journey away from home for treatment, Tirii is now grateful to be leaving hospital with Marina and looking forward to taking her home.
