Fiji’s tourism sector has affirmed its support for the whole-of-government response following Cabinet’s declaration of the HIV outbreak as a national crisis.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, says the Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Action Group and Tourism Fiji will support the national response, led by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
Gavoka says Fiji’s HIV response is a public health matter led by the Ministry of Health, and the tourism sector will support the response, guided by its advice.
He says they are combating the threat through a whole-of-government approach and are confident that they will prevail over HIV.
The Deputy Prime Minister confirmed that Fiji remains open to international visitors, with tourism services continuing to operate normally.
The Ministry says tourism partners and stakeholders will continue to monitor developments and ensure information provided to tourism operators, industry partners and visitors is accurate, consistent and guided by official public health advice.
