Archbishop to be ordained next month
A historic event in the Roman Catholic Archdioceses of Suva, Fiji will take place next month when we see the Episcopal ordination of the Archbishop Elect Father Peter Loy Chong as he becomes the second local Archbishop in the history of the Catholic Church in Fiji.

The ordination service will be conducted by the Archbishop John Dew of Wellington, Bishop Sowane Mafi of Tonga and Archbishop Petero Mataca.

A papal invitation has been sent and we may also see a representative from the Vatican coming over for the ceremony.

The Catholic Church in Fiji is still awaiting a confirmation on this.

Church spokesperson, Tukini Cama said the last ordination was in 1974 and the date has been confirmed for the ordination of Father Peter Loy Chong as the next Archbishop of the church.

Amongst the invited guests are the President of Fiji, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, government ministers, church leaders from religious organizations and civil society leaders.

The ordination service will be held at the Vodafone Arena on the 8th of next month and more than ten thousand people are expected to attend.
