Two former Fiji residents who were found guilty of multiple charges of rape have been sentenced to more than 15 years by the Hamilton District Court in New Zealand.
24-year-old Benjamin Nilesh Goundar and 27-year-old Ashumendra Rohit Prasad stood expressionless in the dock of the High Court at Hamilton yesterday as they were sentenced to 16 and 15 years respectively.
Goundar, deemed the “ringleader”, was found guilty of two charges of rape and two of unlawful sexual connection, one of abduction, threatening to kill and helping to assault a female.
Prasad was found guilty on five of six charges.
The two raped a girl in 2011 who is now 15 years old.
