Overseas media outlets make false claims of PM appearing on currency

Overseas media outlets make false claims of PM appearing on currency

Some overseas media outlets are now misleading people by claiming that Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama’s face will replace the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on Fiji’s banknotes and coins.

Fijivillage has already established that these claims by the media outlets are fabricated and baseless.

Reserve Bank of Fiji Governor Barry Whiteside earlier said members of the British Royal Family have featured on our currency since 1934 and the country is grateful to have had the privilege of this association over the past 78 years.

New flora and fauna designs will feature on our new banknotes and coins from January 2nd next year.

Whiteside said while it is sad to see the transition taking place, it is time to move forward and promote Fiji’s unique national treasure and the biodiversity that lies around us.
