Former Fijian Holdings Limited CEO Mohammed Nouzab Fareed, who indecently assaulted a woman in his office, has been sentenced to 8 months and 22 days in prison after receiving a partially suspended sentence.
Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola says the partially suspended sentence is intended to allow for rehabilitation.
He says the victim suffered emotional trauma and had respectfully sought a custodial sentence of zero tolerance for such behaviour.
He says she was 22 years at the time of the offence and expected Fareed to treat her respectfully and professionally.
Chief Magistrate Waqaivolavola says she had to relive the trauma during the trial.
He says Fareed had used his CEO authority to take advantage of the victim and stressed that he showed no genuine remorse.
Speaking outside the court, Fareed's lawyer Hemendra Nagin said the sentencing is excessive and they will appeal.
The offences were committed on 25th June and 13th September 2019.
