Putting aside a few dollars a week has paid off as 162 families of Jittu Estate are expected to move into their new homes within the next 20 weeks.
It was a time of celebration as members of the People's Community Network today marked the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Lagilagi Housing Pilot Project at the Jittu Squatter Settlement which started in 2003.
PCN Director Semiti Qalowasa said today for the 162 families the end of being called a squatter, as they look forward to owning their new home on a piece of land.
Meanwhile for Loata Bulimatautini who has been staying at Jittu Estate since 1984, said knowing that she has helped to build her family and grandchildren a new home by putting aside as little as $2 a day has been very rewarding.
The Lagilagi Housing Project will see the construction of three and double story complex=s with two bedrooms, while a single story one bedroom complex has been especially put aside for the elderly and those receiving Assistance from the Social Welfare Ministry.
