Hundreds farewell Ratu Jo Nawalowalo

Hundreds of people from all walks of life were present at the funeral service of the former chairman of the Fiji Kava Council, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo who passed away in Nadi last Friday.

Chairman of the Lomaiviti Provincial Council, Takalai Gau, Ratu Jolame Lewanavanua represented the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama as a board member of the Native Land Trust Board.

In his eulogy, Lewanavanua said, Ratu Jo was a man of principles who was chosen in the establishment of the People's Charter for Change.

Lewanavanua said that the Government saw the potential in Ratu Jo as he was driving the need to create a society free from poverty and also voiced the need to build more houses for the people who did not have proper housing.

Meanwhile former Native Land Development Corporation chief executive, Ratu Tuakitau Cokanauto said Ratu Jo=s second name Tuivanuavou was given by his late father, Ratu Edward Cakobau as they were good friends and served Fiji at the second world war with Ratu Seci Nawalowalo, Ratu Jo's late father.

Ratu Tuakitau said Ratu Jo is known to many as "Gentleman Joe" because he respects all people and also jokes and makes people laugh.

Present at the Centenary church today were chiefs, representatives from the Government and the Private sector, relatives and friends.
