First lot of potatoes planted in Nadarivatu, were harvested yesterday.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Colonel Mason Smith said they harvested 5 metric tonnes of potatoes and the first lots were bought by Flour Mills of Fiji at a price of 90 cents per kilogram.
He said they are now trying to decrease the potato import in the next few years.
Fiji imports about 16,000 tonnes of potatoes annually.
