8 men missing at sea

Officers from the Police Search and Rescue Division are looking for 8 men who are missing at sea.

The 8 who are from Lamiti Village, Gau, were returning to their village from Suva in a white fibre glass boat when the engine developed mechanical problems yesterday afternoon.

A villager who was on the boat called Levuka Police yesterday afternoon and called for assistance saying that they were in the open seas, past Levuka.

A team was dispatched last evening to look for the 8, however they could not locate them.

The search continues today.
