Constitutional Commission to begin hearings next Friday
The Constitutional Commission will begin its hearings and public submissions process from next Friday.

The Commission states that it will be the beginning of a 68 day national consultation tour by the Commission to collect the views of all Fijians. 

For the first two weeks, the commission will be in Suva, then will travel around the country starting with the west.

People of Fiji have been urged to make submissions. 

Meanwhile, the five members of the Constitutional Commission have already been sworn in by Acting President and Chief Justice Anthony Gates.

Chairperson Professor Yash Ghai, Penelope Moore, Professor Christina Murray, Taufa Vakatale and Dr Satendra Nandan took their oath yesterday. 

Chief Justice Gates said in ascertaining the circumstances and needs of Fiji, he trusts the members will pay due respect to the views and aspirations of all its people.


Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde, Permanent Secretary for Justice Mere Vuniwaqa and Land Force Commander Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga were also present at the ceremony.
