Savenaca Lutua Tamani, one of three suspects charged with aggravated burglary and theft in Nadawa on July 30th, has been denied bail and remanded in custody.
In a video shared on social media, it can been that the alleged robbers forcefully entered the property and stole groceries, jewellery and other household items.
He appeared before Nasinu Magistrate Krishan Prasad this afternoon.
Magistrate Prasad says aggravated burglary is a serious offence and that police have a strong case against Tamani.
He rejected bail, noting that the other two alleged accomplices have not yet been arrested.
Police Prosecutor Setareki Mocevakaca objected to bail due to public interest, following the circulation of CCTV footage of the incident on social media.
Mocevakaca says the protection of the community is fundamental.
Tamani told the court that he is the sole breadwinner for his family and looks after his two sons and elderly grandmother.
The matter has been transferred to the Suva High Court and adjourned to next Friday.
