England survived a fierce second-half comeback from France to claim third place at the FIFA World Cup with a thrilling 6-4 victory.

After storming to a 4-0 halftime lead, England were pushed all the way as Kylian Mbappé scored twice to become the FIFA World Cup's all-time leading goalscorer and move to the top of the Golden Boot race.

Declan Rice got England off to the perfect start in the third minute before Ezri Konsa doubled the lead 15 minutes later.

Bukayo Saka then took centre stage, scoring twice before halftime to leave England in complete control at the break.

France came out firing in the second half as Mbappé struck in the 48th and 66th minutes, with Bradley Barcola scoring in between to cut the deficit to just one goal.

Saka completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 87th minute to make it 5-3, but Ousmane Dembélé pulled one back for France in stoppage time to set up a tense finish.

With France chasing an equaliser, Jude Bellingham struck in the eighth minute of added time to wrap up a pulsating 6-4 victory for England.

Meanwhile, in the FIFA World Cup final, Spain will take on Argentina at 7am tomorrow.
