Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Alexander O’Connor

The Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Alexander O’Connor has said in parliament that they will raise the standard of ambulance services to another level by introducing paramedical services.

While speaking in parliament, O’Connor said that this will see ward nurses and drivers enrolling in a 8 to 9 month course before being assigned to specially outfitted ambulances.

He said these ambulances have been purchased and it is in the process of being delivered.

O’Connor also said that current nursing stations are earmarked to be upgraded to health centre status due to the increase in population and the distance from the nearest subdivisional hospitals.

He also said that new nursing stations will be constructed in rural and remote areas as and when the need arises and on approval and receipt of 60 percent of the landowning unit.
