56-year-old Timoci Lolohea has been charged with a count of murder.

56-year-old Timoci Lolohea's murder trial commenced before High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo this morning.

He is charged with a count of murder and it is alleged that he killed his 22-year-old defacto partner by stabbing her with two knives.

The alleged incident took place on 20th March last year at Nasilivata Street in Nadera.

The first and prime prosecution witness, Rasha Ali told the court that Lolohea's defacto partner was her son's babysitter.

Ali says her husband had left for work from their Nasilivata Street house in Nadera and she was at home with the deceased.

Ali told the court that she saw a shadow while sitting on the couch and when she looked back, she saw Lolohea standing at the door of their house.

She said that she was shocked to see Lolohea there as she did not hear the gate opening and someone walking towards their house.

Ali told the court that Lolohea wanted to see his defacto partner but instead his partner said that she did not want to see him.

She said that Lolohea started talking in the iTaukei language which she did not understand but he was sounding demanding and authoritative.

She stated that Lolohea also started talking about a will and that his defacto partner had to sign it.

Ali then told the court that she took her child to the room and while putting the child on the bed, she heard the loud scream of her child's nanny and it was like that someone had attacked her.

Ali says she rushed out of her room to see Lolohea punching his defacto partner in her chest.

She said this happened on the porch.

According to the agreed facts put before the court this morning, Lolohea was legally married and got separated about four years ago.

He was in a defacto relationship with his niece and they have a daughter together.

According to the agreed facts, Lolohea and his defacto partner started having problems and he was not happy with the fact that his defacto partner had moved out of their flat.

It was also put before the court that Lolohea started searching for his defacto partner.

According to the agreed facts, Lolohea had surrendered to the Lami Police Station on 20th March 2017 and told the officers that he had killed the deceased.

The trial continues this hour in the Suva High Court.

The prosecution will be presenting 24 witnesses.
