Fiji to meet Australia in Singapore 7s cup final after defeating SA 12-10

The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has defeated South Africa 12-10 in a mouth watering semifinal clash of the Singapore 7s to book their place in the final tomorrow morning.

It has been described as one of the best match so far in the series with both sides giving their all to fight for the World Sevens Series title.

Both sides received yellow cards to Cecil Africa and Amenoni Nasilasila who were sent out due to tackling the player without the ball and deliberate knock on respectively.

Fiji was trailing 5-10 at half time with a try to Alasio Naduva in the first half while South Africa’s tries came from Werner Kok and Siviwe Soyizwapi.

The national side came back strongly in the second half as they managed to stay composed with their defence and controlled possession.

Their second try came from Eroni Sau who broke the defence of Werner Kok and Selvyn Davids to score beside the upright and making the conversion easier for Nasilasila to put Fiji in the lead.

The last three minutes kept the fans at the edge of their seats as both sides gave everything to try and reach the final.

Fiji will now meet  Australia in the final at 12am tomorrow.

Australia defeated England 15-7 in the second semifinal.


Looking at the standings: 

First scenario

If Fiji wins the Singapore 7s they will take the lead in the World Sevens Series overall standings with 145 points.

If South Africa wins the Bronze, they will move down to second place with 143 points.

Second scenario

If Fiji loses to Australia in the cup final, they will get 142 points.

If South Africa loses to England in the bronze final, they will get 141 points which will see Fiji leading the World Sevens Series Overall Standings.

Third scenario

If Fiji loses the final they will get 142 points.

If South Africa wins the bronze final against England they will get 143 points in the Overall Standings and still maintain their lead.
