A grassroots team that wins the 50th Fiji Bitter Marist Rugby 7s Tournament will walk away with $12,000 in prize money, plus an additional $5,000 bonus.

This was revealed by Marist Rugby Club President Lawrence Tikaram during the official launch of the Golden Jubilee 50th Fiji Bitter Marist Rugby 7s today.

Tikaram says the launch highlights the long-standing partnership between Marist Rugby Club and Fiji Bitter.

He confirms that 120 teams will compete in this year’s tournament, with a total prize pool of $75,000 up for grabs.

Tikaram also notes that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Sevens, adding that the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament has produced world-class players such as two-time Olympic gold medallist Jerry Tuwai.

He reflected on the tournament’s humble beginnings, saying that when it started 50 years ago, the major prize was just five cartons of beer, compared to the $75,000 prize pool offered today - a sign of how far Marist Rugby has come.

The tournament will be held from March 26th to 28th.
