Yasawa Saints were crowned winners of the inaugural Girls League Tag Championships after defeating Australia Umina bunnies 16-12 at Churchill Park Lautoka.

The Girls League Tag Championships kicked off last Friday bringing together teams from Australia and Fiji.

In partnership with League Tag Fiji, Sportswell introduced the fast-growing sport of league tag to Fiji, aiming to develop and expand the sport across the Pacific region.

This year’s girls league championships marks the first division of the League Tag Series to be hosted in Fiji.

Sportswell has already confirmed plans for the 2025 League Tag Championships in Lautoka next December, with the addition of more divisions to foster the sport's growth.

Chief Executive Officer of Sportswell Trish Aisake says it is wonderful to not only promote grassroots sports but also give opportunities for girls' sports in Fiji.

Aisake says they are thrilled to expand the event in 2025 and continue growing the league tag across the region.

She says Sportswell specializes in facilitating sporting exchanges between Australia and Fiji, fostering the development of Fijian players, teams, and clubs while offering visiting Australian teams the chance to experience Fiji’s unique culture and renowned hospitality on and off the field.

After a brief pause in operations in 2012, Sportswell resumed in 2024 with a renewed focus on fostering sports development in the Pacific Over the years, Sportswell has successfully organized sporting tours for a variety of disciplines, including rugby league, netball, soccer, lawn bowls, hockey, cricket, rugby union, touch football, swimming, basketball, and badminton.

League Tag Fiji is a newly established sporting association dedicated to developing league tags nationwide and promoting greater participation of women in sports.
