With the Kadavu Rugby Union side achieving a milestone and will be playing in the top local rugby competitions next year, the Club’s President and Minister for Information, Lynda Tabuya has called for continued support from the Vanua as they prepare for tough challenges ahead.

The Kadavu rugby side secured their place in the 2026 Skipper Cup competition after reaching the final of the Vodafone Vanua Championship and claiming the title for the first time, defeating Navosa 23-17 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.

Thousands of supporters filled the stands to witness the historic moment as the island team completed their fairytale run in this year’s Vanua competition.

Tabuya could not contain her emotions as her team achieved their long-standing goal of qualifying for the 2026 Skipper Cup, a milestone reached under her leadership as the first ever female rugby president in Fiji.

Speaking from Australia, where she celebrated Fiji Day, Tabuya expressed her pride and joy, describing the win as a unifying moment for Kadavu people across the world.

She says the victory has restored pride, strengthened identity, and inspired a renewed connection to the island.

Tabuya also highlighted that player welfare remains a top priority.

She adds that more opportunities will be created for island players to participate in sports, as this not only elevates the province’s reputation but also provides pathways for players to build sustainable careers in professional rugby.
