Indian para-athlete Sumit Antil is the first ever male athlete to defend his gold medal in the Paralympics after setting a new Paralympic record of 70.59m in the men’s javelin throw F64 class.

Antil says he was hoping to break the world record, but it’s good to have got the Paralympic record.

Antil also holds the world record of 73.29m in the F64 class.

Antil’s medal was India’s third gold medal at the ongoing Games.

Badminton player Nitesh Kumar won the gold medal in the men’s SL3 class earlier in the day while Avani Lekhara defended her 10m air rifle shooting standing SH1 title on Friday.
