Queensland centre Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow sent a scare through the Maroons camp after suffering a knock at training yesterday.

However, a Queensland spokesperson said there were "no major concerns”.

Team mate Pat Carrigan required 30 stitches for a facial laceration suffered in a head clash against the Dragons but he will be good to go for the series opener.

Fullback Kalyn Ponga sat out training on Wednesday and Thursday but the Knights gun will also be right to play.

Billy Slater has handed Roosters rookie Robert Toia an Origin debut after Murray Taulagi suffered a calf injury, with Val Holmes shifting to the wing as a result.

Cam Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans will combine in the halves and Tom Dearden has been named the bench utility.

New South Wales prop Payne Haas completed a light session on Saturday and is set to train with the squad today as he looks to prove his fitness.

The Broncos big man is continuing to manage a quad injury and the Blues have Stefano Utoikamanu on standby should Haas fail to come up.

Centre Stephen Crichton took to the training paddock and looks to have overcome a groin issue while Wests Tigers utility Adam Doueihi, Dragons duo Cody Ramsey and suspended Bulldog Jacob Preston have been brought into camp to help manage the workloads of other players.

Halfback Nathan Cleary is preparing for his first Origin match since Game One 2023 and will partner Mitchell Moses in the halves.

Bulldogs forward Max King is set for his State of Origin debut off the bench.

Game 1 kicks off at 10pm Wednesday at Suncorp Stadium.
