The Nakavu Rugby Club’s main purpose for the players is to get exposure to big tournaments in Fiji such as the Fiji Bitter 7s series and get a chance to play in the national team.

Nakavu Rugby Coach, Niko Nawave says all their players grew up in Nakavu Village in Namosi and they only get exposed to local tournaments around Serua and Namosi.

He says their first big tournament was the Fiji Bitter Uluinakau 7s last year.

The coach says they have participated in tournaments such as Labasa 7s, Savusavu 7s, Namalata 7s and Waimanu Flame 7s which they played against well-known teams like Army Green, First Light and Lavidi Brothers.

Nawave adds as a grassroot team, all they need is the support from villagers so that the boys can utilise the talents they have.

He says now, they are fortunate to get a sponsor that provides their rugby gear for all the tournaments they take part in.

Nawave adds they are now looking forward to participating in the Lomaiviti 7s, Wairiki 7s and the Coral Coast 7s next month.
