Anahira McCutcheon has set two new national records in the 15-16 age category at the Fiji Aquatics Open Championships currently underway at the National Aquatic Centre.

McCutcheon broke the 50-metre backstroke record in a time of 29.81 seconds, eclipsing Kinimere Naivalu's record of 31.04 that had stood since June 2015.

She also recorded a new time of 57.07 seconds in the 100-metre freestyle, breaking Naivalu's previous record of 1:01.41 from June 19, 2015, thus setting new records in events that were ten years old.

Reuben Taylor set a new record in the 15-16 age category for the 100-metres freestyle, clocking 54.08 seconds in the finals—surpassing Hansel McCaig's previous record of 54.51 seconds set in 2019.

Thaddeus Kwong also set a new record in the 15-16 age category 100-metre backstroke with a time of 1:02.76.

Five swimming clubs are involved in the weekend long competition from Mako Swim Club, Barracuda Swim Club, Dolphins Swim Club, Tritons Swim Club, and Orca Swim Club.

Day 3 of the Long Course Open featured our Master Swimmers—Lyndall Probert, Terence Erasito, Carl Probert, and Harvey Probert—who participated in today's events to qualify for the Masters Championships, all setting new record standards in their categories. The Nationals will continue today with both heats and finals.
