Former Fiji Water Flying Fijian and Rugby Executive Koli Sewabu has been appointed as Acting CEO of Fiji Rugby Football Union Ltd by the Board of Directors of the Fiji Rakavi Football Board.

This is after Rovereto Nayacalevu officially resigned from his role as the Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, due to personal reasons.

While speaking during the announcement, FRU Board Chairman John Sanday says Sewabu has accepted the delegation of the board to fill this role for a period of six months, after which a formal search will be conducted to engage a full-time CEO.

Sanday says this is the big cultural change that he wants to pursue, and the FRU looks forward to an exciting future as they move forward on this journey.

Sanday also acknowledged Nayacalevu’s contribution during his tenure as the Acting CEO, and says the board of FRU is deeply honoured by his magnanimity of his acceptance of the new direction, and the FRU holds his judgement in high regard and a lot of respect.

He says FRU extends its sincere appreciation to Nayacalevu and his family for the contributions made and done during his tenure and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.

While speaking on his appointment, Sewabu acknowledged the FRU’s board of directors for having faith in him, and for the endorsement to bring him in to take part in this journey of transition in the interim role for the next six months.

He says it is not easy and he knows it is a challenge, but it is an exciting one.

In his departing speech, Nayacalevu says it has been a challenging but rewarding opportunity, and he looks forward to what he has planned.

He thanked the board for their support during his tenure, and he assured that they will continue to support the future of rugby in the background, because of the excitement of where they will be over the next three years.
