Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Coach Glen Jackson

Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Coach, Glen Jackson has today admitted that upon reviewing the team’s performance this season, it was clear that his approach did not deliver the outcomes they were aiming for.

This was after he was asked by fijivillage News why the Drua Players Leadership Group that was set up previously, was removed this year.

Jackson revealed to us that his goal this year was to empower every player to lead both themselves and the team, which is why he removed the leadership group from the team.

He says he wanted his young players to focus on becoming professional rugby players without the added pressure of managing team discipline.

Jackson says one of the things he values the most about coaching the Drua is the richness of Fijian culture, and it is something he deeply respects and fully embraces as head coach.

He says that cultural strength is something the team will continue to build on, and looking ahead, they will refine their leadership model.

Jackson says while the team will retain co-captains to lead on and off the field next season, they will also reintroduce a broader leadership group which will carry specific responsibilities to support the captains and provide guidance across the playing group.

He says the aim is to strike the right balance between individual accountability, cultural values, and strong team leadership.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Drua finished in 10th place overall this season with 20 points.

The Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific playoffs will kick off this Friday with the Crusaders hosting the Reds at 7.05pm.

The Chiefs will take on the Blues at 7.05pm Saturday, and the Brumbies will battle the Hurricanes at 9.35pm Saturday.
