Vinesh Phogat who was the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final has been disqualified from the 50kg wrestling final.

Phogat has been disqualified after she was found 100 grams overweight and will not be able to chase her historic podium finish.

Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez will now compete against USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt in the final.

Phogat’s journey from off-mat struggles to making her name in history is remarkable where she faced early exits in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 and underwent knee surgery less than a year before the Olympics.

Phogat’s coach Woller Akos is asking people to respect her privacy.

Meanwhile, the United States is leading the Olympic tally with 25 gold, 32 silver and 32 bronze followed by China with 23 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze, Australia is third with 17 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze while France is fourth with 13 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze.
