The Ministry of Health monitors the health of the Fiji 7s players whenever they go out of the country for a tournament and when they return home, and the Fiji Rugby Union has assured the people that none of the players have COVID-19.

This has been confirmed by FRU CEO, John O’Connor who says the players were scanned at the Nadi International Airport when they arrived last Wednesday and were cleared by the health officials.

O’Connor adds when they arrived from Vancouver, the 14-day isolation period was not in effect, so they were only given the Health Ministry numbers to contact if symptoms of the disease arises.

He says yesterday the ministry advised the players to self-isolate themselves as a precautionary measure.

O’Connor confirms that players have not been tested for COVID-19 but through continuous monitoring by the Heath Ministry, the players have not shown any symptoms of the virus.

He adds all players and team officials have now self-isolated themselves at home for the next 14 days.

Meanwhile, two members of the Australian rugby sevens program have been tested for COVID-19 after showing signs and symptoms associated with the pandemic.

South African Rugby has taken several steps to combat the coronavirus outbreak, including testing their sevens and U20 sides for the disease while New Zealand 7s team have halted training after two of their recent opponents are being tested for coronavirus.
