The Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women landed back home from Brisbane last night after returning from the 2024 Super Rugby Women’s grand final clash against the NSW Waratahs where they lost 50-14.

While welcoming the team, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua encouraged the team to let this little setback fill their determination to come back stronger, train harder and chase their dreams with determination and even greater passion.

Qereqeretabua says she knows that the team is not defeated, but they are strengthened by the challenges that they just faced.

She says though the final score may not reflect, but the victory, the resilience, the courage and the unity that the players displayed on the field have made Fiji proud.

She told the players to always remember that it is not all the trophies that define them but the character that they show in the face of adversity.

While acknowledging the welcoming reception, Drua Women’s captain Karalaini Naisewa thanked the nation and the coalition government for their support towards the team throughout the season.

Naisewa also thanked the Drua Vuvale for the support.

She also acknowledged the players for the efforts they have been putting in on and off the field throughout the season.

The Drua Women players now turn their focus on trying to get selected into the national side for the World Rugby Oceania Tournament next month where they will go up against Samoa, Tonga and Papua New Guinea.

The winner of the Oceania Tournament directly qualifies for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.
