David Pocock retires from rugby

Former Wallabies captain and flanker David Pocock has called time on his 15-year rugby career.

Pocock has called time on his professional career, opting not to return to Japan where he was due to play under former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans at the Panasonic Wild Knights.

He did so not because of injury but because it was time.

Pocock told RUGBY.com.au that while it was a tough decision, it feels like the right one now and as a lot of former athletes talk about, it is not going to be smooth sailing but a great challenge.

Pocock made his debut in Australian rugby in 2006 for the Western Force against the Sharks and made his debut for the Wallabies in 2008 when they played against the Barbarians.

In 2010, Pocock became the first choice openside flanker for the Wallabies where he also won the John Eales Medal – the highest honour in Australian Rugby.

Meanwhile, the Wallabies will face the All Blacks in the third Bledisloe Cup test at 8.45pm next Saturday at Sydney's ANZ Stadium
