Daugunu re-signs with Reds and Rugby AU through to 2027

Fiji-born Reds winger Filipo Daugunu has re-signed with the club and Rugby Australia through to the end of 2027.

While expressing his gratitude, Daugunu says he is happy and blessed, and it is great to be staying in Brisbane with the Reds for two more years.

He says he always calls Brisbane home because it was where professional rugby started for me.

While speaking about the goals he has set for the remainder of the season, Daugunu says he would love to play for the Wallabies in the British and Irish Lions Series, but the most important thing for him is to play well for the Reds and get the two wins at home heading into the finals and hopefully that will put him in a good position.

The 30-year-old says the Lions is a tour that happens only once every 12 years, so it is a series he wants to be involved in as it is part of his focus, and it would be special.

Daugunu moved to Brisbane in 2017 and made his Super Rugby debut in 2018 for the Reds against the Melbourne Rebels.

He later made his Test debut in 2020 for the Wallabies and has gone on to earn 11 international caps.

Queensland Reds Head Coach Les Kiss says Daugunu is an outstanding person in their locker room.

Kiss says that, on top of the versatility and presence he has brought to the backline this year, his experience is highly valued.

Rugby Australia’s Director of High Performance, Peter Horne, says Daugunu has been in great form for the Reds in this year’s Super Rugby Pacific season, and they are pleased that the winger has re-committed to Australian Rugby for a further two years.

Horne says Daugunu’s versatility is a real positive in his game, and they are looking forward to continuing to watch him work hard with the Reds.

Meanwhile, the Reds will be hosting the Hurricanes at 9.35pm this Friday at Suncorp Stadium.

In other Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific round 15 matches this week, the Crusaders will take on the Highlanders at 7.05pm Friday, Moana Pasifika will host the Chiefs at 7.05pm Saturday, and the Western Force will take on the Waratahs at 9.35pm Saturday.
