Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his final appearance in the tournament.
The 40-year-old striker, who has scored 953 goals for club and country, also says he plans to retire from football in one or two years.
The next World Cup, hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA, will be Ronaldo’s sixth.
Ronaldo currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and is the all-time leading men’s international goalscorer with 143 goals.
He is also chasing the 1,000 career goals mark.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus star has won almost every major trophy, including the Euro 2016 title with Portugal, but he has never won the World Cup.
Portugal, coached by Roberto Martinez, can confirm their place at the 2026 World Cup if they beat the Republic of Ireland next Friday.
